Clive Nolan is to release a live version of his rock musical Alchemy on September 25.
This was filmed in February this year at the Wyspiański Theater in Katowice, Poland. Nolan was joined for this performance by actors from the Caamora Theatre Company, plus vocalists Tracy Hitchings (Strangers On A Train, Landmarq), Andy Sears (Twelfth Night), Paul Manzi (Arena, Oliver Wakeman Band) and Damian Wilson (Threshold, Headspace). The musicians featured include Mark Westwood (guitars), Scott Higham (drums), Claudio Momberg (piano) and Kylan Amos (bass), as well as Nolan himself on keyboards.
Alchemy is an adventure set in 1842. Says Nolan: “It’s for me the biggest musical and artistic challenge I have ever attempted. I really didn’t expect a bigger mountain to climb than the She project (2008), but I was wrong. This show is simply larger in structure and depth”.
Apart from the live presentation, the DVD has interviews with Nolan, cast members Agnieszka Świta and David Clifford, plus Higham and Westwood. There’s also a documentary called The Making of Alchemy.
A special box set will be available as well. This has the live DVD, two CDs with the audio from the performance, a bonus DVD which provides greater insight on the project, and a bonus CD featuring exclusive demos and alternative versions of the songs.
Nolan is to stage Alchemy in the UK, again with the Caamora Theatre Company, at The Playhouse in Cheltenham from September 5-7. There’s also a special fundraising gig at Devizes Conservative Club on July 20. Find out more HERE!
