Asia announce first show with Sam Coulson

Asia Asia will perform their first-ever show with new guitarist Sam Coulson at the Stables in Milton Keynes on June 5, they’ve confirmed.

The 26-year-old was named as the band’s latest member following Steve Howe’s surprise departure in January. He’s been working on Asia’s upcoming album Valkyrie, and makes his festival debut with them at Sweden Rock two days after the Milton Keynes show.

The band say: “As well as an opportunity to introduce Sam, this intimate show is also intended as a thank-you to Asia fans after the 2012 tour had to be cancelled due to Carl Palmer’s health.”

Frontman John Wetton adds: “Asia is ready to take its next steps. We can’t wait to see Sam take his place on stage for the first of many shows with us.”

The show will feature an acoustic section of songs the band have never played live in the UK before, in addition to a full electric set.

Howe recently told Prog he’d been considering leaving the band for some time before his departure was announced.
