He’ll be joined by Nik Kershaw, Steve Rothery, John Wetton, Jakko Jakszyk and Amanda Lehmann for the concert on May 9, which kicks off the first leg of his 2013 UK journey.
It will include material from Genesis albums Selling England By The Pound, Foxtrot, The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway, A Trick Of The Tail and Wind And Wuthering.
Friars promoter David Stopps says: “The Aylesbury area is real Genesis country. The first time we presented them at Friars was in 1970, when we paid them the princely sum of £10 to appear at the New Friarage Hall in Walton Street.
“Since then they played at Friars a further five times. Steve Hackett was in the band for three of those shows, including the famous one in June 1971 where Peter Gabriel leapt into the audience and broke his ankle.
“It will be fantastic to have Steve back on stage at Friars – he’s one of rock’s greatest guitarists and was a key member of one of the world’s greatest bands. He’s an incredible classical guitarist too.”
Kershaw, Rothery, Wetton, Jaksyzk and Lehmann will also appear at Hackett’s concert on May 10 in London’s Hammersmith Apollo. A single-disc album, Selection, will be released on May 13 to coincide with the tour, featuring a version of Carpet Crawlers with ex-Genesis frontman Ray Wilson. He’ll guest with Hackett on May 14 in Glasgow.
