Kevin Ayers RIP

Kevin AyresIt is our sad duty to inform you that Kevin Ayers passed away on Monday 18th February 2013. He was discovered at his home in France, by a neighbour, on Tuesday 19th. It is believed he died in his sleep.

Possibly best remembered for his involvement with Canterbury legends Soft Machine. Having previously teamed up with Robert Wyatt and Hugh Hopper in the Wilde Flowers, Kevin switched over to bass to accomodate the incoming guitarist Daevid Allen and keyboardist Mike Ratledge.

Ayers performed on Soft Machine’s eponymous debut album released in late 1968, before embarking on a prolific solo career. His debut solo album Joy Of A Toy appearing just under a year later, after which he went on to release numerous solo albums until his final album Unfairground (2007).

    Try to at least get his name right in the title – it’s “Ayers”, not “Ayres”.
