Fish to resurrect Grendel

Prog Rock Magazine reported today that Fish would once gain perform Grendel…

Fish ~ image by Peter Oram courtesy of official websiteProg was, well, quite frankly gobsmacked with the new that Fish is to resurrect the old Marillion epic Grendel at his convention at Leamington Spa Assembly Rooms this October.

The event takes place on the weekend of October 20/21 and will feature Fish performing with his full electric band on both nights. Special guests on the Saturday will be It Bites and on the Sunday The Reasoning. Other events will include a special acoustic performance from Fish, a screening of the film Electric Man, a Q+A with the director and actors as well as an in-depth Q+A with Fish himself. other events are currently taking shape.

However the news that will thrill Fish fans is the revelation that “I have also decided to put together an arrangement of Grendel for a one off performance!”

Grendel was last performed by Fish with Marillion when the band appeared at the Reading Festival in 1983. Having announced at the end of their Script For A Jester’s Tear tour they would no longer be performing the 17-minute plus epic (which had appeared as the 12″ B-side to their very first single Market Square Heroes), they then stunned the crowd at Reading by opening their set with it. It has never been played by the band since, despite calls for it at live shows continuing to this day.
