The Tangent will re-release their fan CD "A Place On The Shelf" on June 12. Originally released a year ago by invitation only, the album was originally a fund raiser for the "Down And Out" recording sessions. Composed of high quality out-takes from past Tangent recordings and including 30 minutes of a shelved album project based on a major classical piece, the album proved popular with fans, some of course who preferred it to regular recordings! The album also includes the 20 minute long "Live On Air" - a song from the "Not As Good As The Book" sessions which was shelved owing to its controversial nature. "It's about the way the Media report things" says Andy Tillison, "but I didn't write it well enough, and I think the lyrics were likely to mislead people, so I wouldn't want it out there as a fully official statement of the band's thinking". The album is available ONLY from the band's website.
The new lineup of the band has started to do gigs, and the remainder of the year will see the band making forays rather than touring. The band have already played at The Progeny Festival in the UK, described on the DPRP as "something really special" and saying that the band are going "from strength to strength".
The first European date will be at the "Gong, Rock In Progress Festival" in Parma, Italy on July 31 where The Tangent will finish the proceedings which also include Moongarden, Lazuli and Colster.
Dates already organised with more in discussion are:
23 July 2010
"Warm Up" bash at the Hare and Hounds in New Mills, Derbyshire, UK (The band's local pub... all welcome, FREE)
31 July 2010
Gong Festival, Parma Italy
22 August 2010

13 November 2010

GLASS HAMMER: New 2010 line up announced...
We've hit the reset button on Glass Hammer, the result being a brand new lineup for 2010. Don't worry - connections with former members remain intact, but with Susie making a big move several hours south of us and a new album in production - the time has come to turn the page and begin a new chapter in the life of the band. Fred and I have assembled an outstanding group of new players who (in our opinion) fit the material perfectly, and have a complete grasp of where we want to head with Glass Hammer's music.
Production on the new album (no title yet) is moving along at a rapid pace. In fact, we're recording acoustic guitar parts as I type! We'll reveal more about the project in the near future.
Jon Davison - Lead vocals
Fred Schendel - Keyboards, steel guitar
Steve Babb - Bass guitar, keyboards
Alan Shikoh - Guitars
Randall Williams - Drums
With Erin Erdos – Flute
(additional players to be announced soon)

The Mexican progressive label Luna Negra, in conjunction with the French Musea label has released a CD by a new progressive "supergroup" Distinguished Panel Of Experts. The title of the CD is "Trans-Indulgent", and the new band consists of Shawn Persinger [guitarist for Cuneiform group Boud Deun who also has released 4 CDs under the name Prester John]; Nathan Mahl & Camel keyboardist Guy LeBlanc; and the rhythm section for French TV, bassist Mike Sary and drummer Chris Vincent. It is said to be "a guitar hero record for people who hate guitar hero records." RICHARD WEST: Threshold keys man enlists Within Temptation, Fates Warning members for new project...
Threshold keyboard player Richard West has enlisted the services of guitarist Ruud Jolie (Within Temptation) and drummer Mark Zonder (Fates Warning) for the recording of a new currently unnamed project fronted by vocalist Farrah West.
The project was first planned in 2002 when Farrah and Richard moved from their UK home to the Czech Republic to find time and space to record their debut album, with guest musicians including guitarist Tore Østby (Ark, Conception). However the project stalled and Richard West spent the following years concentrating on progressive metal band Threshold (Nuclear Blast/Warner), clocking up European chart success with two albums and scoring a motion picture soundtrack slot for his song "Pilot In The Sky Of Dreams".
In 2009 Farrah and Richard started to focus once again on the project, co-writing a new album of songs and enlisting the services of legendary Fates Warning (Inside Out) drummer Mark Zonder and guitarist Ruud Jolie from the multi-platinum group Within Temptation (Sony/Roadrunner) for the recordings.
The album is currently in the final stages of production, with an expected release later this year.
