On Roger Water’s website he makes the following statement as to why he is taking The Wall back on the road:

Why am I doing the Wall again now? I recently came across this quote of mine from 22 years ago: “What it comes down to for me is this: Will the technologies of communication in our culture, serve to enlighten us and help us to understand one another better, or will they deceive us and keep us apart?” I believe this is still a supremely relevant question.
THE TANGENT: have announced a new line up that are currently rehearsing for future live performances and that they are beginning work on their next studio album. The new band will debut at May's UK PROGENY Festival

The Tangent 2010 Publicity Photograph

It is with considerable delight that we first introduce the new guitarist, Luke Machin. There are few people who can boast to having been mentored by and shared a stage with Jeff Beck, Frances Dunnery, Robert Plant and still be only 21 years old. Luke is a star of tomorrow, and we are pleased to have him today. With a range of influences more diverse than can normally be associated with someone so young and a controlled flair that has astonished the rest of the band, Luke is a breath of young invigorating fresh air in the band and its sound and we can't wait to show him off. (More about Luke can be found on his own MySpace page.

Drummer Paul Burgess of 10cc who played on the last album (Down and Out In Paris and London) could not maintain a commitment with the band as 10cc had much work abroad for 2010. Happily, his friend and frequent collaborator Michael Gilbourne has stepped into the seat. Michael was involved with 10cc during its very early days and has since played with Barclay James Harvest but is chiefly known as a skilled Music therapist and drum/percussion teacher.

Jonathan Barrett whose contributions to the "Down And Out" album have already earned him much praise remains the band's bass player - his rich and liquid fretless style now becoming an crucial part of the band's sound.

Theo Travis who has been with the band since the second album remains too, although his schedule these days is somewhat hectic. He won't be playing with the band at the Progeny concert because at that time he will be in Spain with Robert Fripp. We'll miss him, but the 4 piece Tangent is a pretty well established beast and we'll try to make up... without faking saxophones!

And of course, Andy Tillison is still here as leader, singer, keyboards player and chief writer of the band which he has now guided through tortuous changes over 7 years, 5 albums, a DVD four tours and too many musicians to count

Guy Manning will play with his own band at the ROSFEST festival in the USA at the beginning of May and therefore also won't be in the live lineup for the forthcoming gigs by the Tangent.
PETER GABRIEL: offers fifteen rare prints of his album covers ...
“The visual part of records has always been something that's excited me from when I was a fan and buying records. I've always loved great artwork and album art. I think it's been a huge part of what people identify and feel about the music and the records. When it's done well I think it's fantastic. When I put out records without titles it was because I tended to remember my own records by the artwork. I used to love gatefold sleeves ...when you would sit at home with a new record and open it up it was just a precious moment. Now we've gone into this digital world a lot of that has been lost. We've been talking about how to get some quality prints of the artwork for a long time and fortunately now it's actually all happened. All the artwork is going to be made available on our site. There are lots of great people and cool ideas that have gone into these album sleeves and it made me happy to see all the prints.” Visit: Real World Galleries.
MAGENTA: launch new Download site
Magenta - Rarities Volume 1Magenta in conjunction with their record label Tigermoth Productions have launched a MP3 site which will give the opportunity to purchase rare and unavailable Magenta tracks. There are currently four download albums available on the site “Rarities Volume 1”, “Seven (The Instrumentals)”, “The Singles” and "Gathering Live" (click more releases...)

The band’s keyboardist Rob Reed explains: "We are excited about this site because it gives the band and the fans benefits beyond normal MP3 outlets. From the fans side, it gives them the option to download better quality MP3s than are usually offered and in several formats as well. At the moment we have many titles available, from instrumental tracks and live recordings, to completely new mixes and currently unavailable tracks. We plan to keep updating and customizing the content over the coming months and welcome feedback back regarding the site." The site is now live and can found here. At the same time the band announced that the “Live at Real World” CD/DVD is almost finished and information regarding the release dates will be made known in a few weeks.
MAGIC PIE: After having been forced to cancel gigs in Moss, Norway and at the Finisterre Festival in Spain as a result of the terrible fire which destroyed much of the bands equipment, Magic Pie will return to perform a concert in Frerikstad, Norway on April 23rd. That is just one week before the band perform at RoSfest, Pennsylvania.
BLACK BONZO: to tour UK in July. Swedish prog band Black Bonzo are to undertake a UK mini tour in July which has been organised by the Classic Rock Society, this is the first time that the CRS have promoted a tour. Two of the gigs will be at the Society’s usual venues at Kilburn, London and Maltby, South Yorkshire while there will be two gigs in Norwich and Swindon. The full dates are:
Wed July 21st, The Brickmakers, Norwich
Thur July 22nd, The 12 Bar, Swindon

A fine set of acts have been drawn up as support artists, with Mother Black Cap supporting in Norwich, Crimson Sky in Swindon, Declan Burke (Frost*, ex Darwin’s Radio) in Kilburn and The Dreaming Tree in Maltby.
PRESTO BALLET: In a related story to the above item, Steve Tomlin revealed in the same interview on ARMFM that American band Presto Ballet are to be brought over to the UK in September for a few gigs. They will be supported by West Midlands band Ark. No definite dates are available at present.
CLASSIC ROCK SOCIETY: The new CRS website went live on Thursday (15th April) at www.classicrocksociety.co.uk and is very much still under construction. The old CRS blog is still available at www.theclassicrocksociety.blogspot.com.
GAZPACHO: have postponed and re-scheduled their Polish concerts ...
Gazpacho had to postpone their three concerts in Poland this past week due to the aircrash near Smolensk in Russia that killed Polish President Lech Kaczynski and 95 other people on April 10th. The three concerts in Warsaw, Krakow and Posnan scheduled between April 16th and 18th corresponded with one weeks mourning declared by the Polish authorities and have been re-scheduled as follows:
24th September 2010 Krakow - Loch Ness
25th September 2010 Warsaw - Progesia
26th September 2010 Posnan - Blue Note
FROST*: Jem Godfrey plans new Frost* material
Jem Godfrey says he planning to start writing tracks for a new Frost* album in the near future, however the material may not be released as a conventional CD collection and could be made available in small groups of short songs or one long song in download format every three months or so. Speaking on the band website on April 13th Godfrey says: "So my current plan is to start writing, recording and releasing either single longer pieces or small clusters of shorter songs made available roughly every 3 months or so, with a caveat to the variety of inevitably random external factors that will no doubt crop up along the way. The Dividing Line was the first of these. Thomas Dolby has spoken already of doing something similar with his new album, as has Imogen Heap. I’m sure others will follow. Perhaps it’s something to do with the “now now now!” attitude that the internet has bred in me that makes me think that big gap-album-big gap is not the way of the future anymore."

For the full story see www.frost-music.co.uk.
FISH: in Charity walk and new film. An April update on Fish’s website reveals that he will be taking part in a charity walk along the 96 mile West Highland Way between Milngavie, on the outskirts of Glasgow and Fort William beginning on Saturday May 22nd. Fish is planning to take six days to complete the walk and all money raised will go to cancer research. Anybody who would like to take part or donate can do so, with full details at Fish’s website.

Fish’s acting career has also received a boost as he is to appear in an independently made Scottish film called “Electric Man” in September. The film is to be made by Strange Boat, the Edinburgh based film and video production company.
UNITOPIA: Pull out of RoSfest and are replaced by Oblivion Sun.

Unitopia announced on Wednesday that they have been forced to pull out of this years RoSfest which will take place on April 30th and May 1st and 2nd. The band cited complications with their travelling plans along with personal band issues that has forced the band to stay in Australia and manage the state of affairs. The band are deeply upset and have expressed their deep apologies to the fans who will be attending the festival, however they will still be offering the chance for RoSfest attendees to purchase a signed special edition of their new album “Artifical”. This can be done by sending a print of their RoSfest ticket to info @ unitopiamusic dot com.

RoSfest organiser George Roldan moved quickly to replace Unitopia and announced that Oblivion Sun will play on Sunday 2nd May between 1.30 and 3.30 pm.

GODSTICKS: new album 'Spiral Vendetta' to be released in June. Cardiff based prog/fusion band Godsticks have announced the title of their upcoming album. In a short note on MySpace they said that "Spiral Vendetta" will be released in June. No doubt further details will be forthcoming.
SPOCK'S BEARD: Dave Meros has given a provisional date of May 10th for the release of Spock's Beard's new album "X". The albums eight songs have been mixed and have now gone for mastering. The full message from Dave is as follows:
Spocks Beard - Limited Edition"Great news. We have finally finished mixing the entire CD!! New excerpts are up on MySpace for you to check out. Excerpts from all eight songs are now on the MySpace music player. Next the mixed CD content goes to mastering, which should take a day or two, then off to the CD manufacturer. Hopefully all will go as planned with no glitches along the line from here on out. I just did a rough timeline estimate and if everything goes smoothly we should be able to start shipping those pre-orders on the week of May 10th. OK, I said it. . . I hope I didn't just jinx the whole thing by saying it. ..I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I feel like I'm a marathon runner who has the finish line in sight, but now I'm getting nervous that I might trip or pull a muscle and delay my finish. ;-) So let's all pray to the gods of CD manufacturing and FedEx that there will be no delays. This Limited Edition CD will be almost completely packed to a CD's absolute physical limit, with nearly 80 minutes of music. More exciting news to come, so stay tuned." - Dave

JOHN JOWITT / ARK: I news taken from Facebook, John Jowitt, bassist noted for his work with UK progressive bands IQ, Arena and Frost* has reformed Ark ...
Ark"ARK were my main band back in the late ‘80s. We won a local bands competition in our first year together and became regulars at Edwards in Birmingham, ending up regularly playing the Marquee. We produced a couple of releases, and after Fish left Marillion, we were touted as possible replacements. We carried on, playing 60-80 gigs a year, including Paris and a double headliner with It Bites at the Noorderligt in Holland, and supported iQ on their 'Are You Sitting Comfortably' tour in England. We're now back together, recording an album of material for release in September and sorting out some gigs, with a new album of completely new material to follow early in 2011. We’re continuing the band’s original theatrical, folky, progressive direction, which should push a few buttons and – you never know, it might uncover many a prog fans ‘G-spot’!"
Joining Jowitt in the 2010 incarnation of ARK are original members Tony Short on vocals and flute, Pete Wheatley - lead guitar , Steve Harris - guitar synth , and new member Tim Churchman, formerly of Darwin’s Radio, on drums.

The forthcoming album, entitled Wild Untamed Imaginings, will be released later in the year (target date: September) label to be confirmed.
VANDEN PLAS: Two new Vanden Plas shows in Germany are confirmed: Vanden Plas will play in Frankfurt at the Spritzehaus on 28 May and in Bad Kreuznach at the "Brückes" on the 3rd of June.

The new Vanden Plas album "The Seraphic Clockwork" will be released on 04 June 2010 by Frontiers Records. The 8 songs were recorded at Bazement Studio by engineer Markus Teske and produced by the band. The story of the concept album was written by Andy Kuntz and tells about a journey in time. The protagonist, who lives in 16th century Rome, comes under the spell of an Old Testament prophecy. He travels back to Jerusalem in the year 33 anno Domini where he must face his God-given destiny.

Stephan Lill about the new album: "I think that my preference for heavier bands shines through more than ever before. Heavy riffs, elaborate keyboard and orchestra arrangements plus catchy hook lines come together in a perfect symbiosis which marks Vanden Plas' characteristic style. I feel that we were much more adventurous on The Seraphic Clockwork than ever before."
PROGPOWER EUROPE: Shadow Gallery to headline at ProgPower Europe
Shadow Gallery announced today that they will be the headliner on Saturday, October 2nd at ProgPower Europe 2010. After the successful release of “Digital Ghosts” in November 2009 via InsideOut Records, the band is set to bring their epic progressive rock music to the stage. Shadow Gallery, known purely as a studio band until this point, has released 6 albums while the members juggled other music-related jobs and careers with their recordings. After the lost of their original singer MIKE BAKER in October 2008 due to a sudden heart attack, the band vowed to honor their fallen band mate and the fans who loved him by moving forward. They found singer BRIAN ASHLAND who stepped in to add his own graceful style to “Digital Ghosts”.

In their upcoming performance at ProgPower Europe, the band will play selections from “Digital Ghosts”, as well as music from all of their previous releases. Guitarist Gary Wehrkamp states, “I have known Rene Janssen from ProgPower Europe a long time and am thrilled that we are going to play our debut European date at his event. The band is enthusiastic to perform in the Netherlands this coming fall. We anticipate a great time and are eager to meet so many friends from this part of the world face to face as we bring the music of Shadow Gallery to the stage”.

Headliner on Sunday 3 October will be Jon Oliva's Pain, who will make their return at ProgPower Europe after their excellent performance back in 2007. Christopher Kinder, drummer of JOP says “Wow...it is with obvious energy and enthusiasm that we are offered the opportunity to headline this killer festival once again. We will arrive ready and eager to satisfy all JOP/Savatage fans. Holland is JO's favorite country as we are always forced to hit the coffee shop before the beginning of every tour! We will spend much time planning this tour. The setlist will be reviewed many, many times so that we can bring the very best of the past and the present to everyone. Thanks again to Rene and all his staff for this warm and very appreciative invitation. And as he said...we will not disappoint! Cheers one and all...our FESTIVAL is coming to your stage soon.”
Check out all details at the Progpower Europe website. Tickets are available through this website.

GREG BOYNTON: It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of Dagaband keyboard player Greg Boynton. Nick May, who played with the band in the mid 80s sent the following fitting tribute ...
It was my honour and privilege to have worked with Greg and his brother Phil in the last line up of Dagaband for 1985 and 1986, a time I remember with great fondness.

This sad news is made all the more poignant by the fact it comes on the eve of Gregs planned return to the music scene, with a full on relaunch for the Dagaband planned for later this year to commemorate the 25th anniversary of our having split up in 1986.

At the age of 61 Greg had all the energy and enthusiasm for the Dagaband as he would undoubtedly have had at the age of 21 (long before I met him) and work had already commenced on exchanging and sifting through ideas for a long awaited Dagaband album. An album that had actually been started in 1986 and shelved for nearly two and a half decades, - an album Greg had always dreamed about completing, but which will now sadly never see the light of day. Fired up with a revitalised determination and ambition Greg had just bought a Hammond C3 (a model he had always wanted) and was scouring ebay for a replacement for his long gone minimoog to equip himself for Dagabands return, when tragedy struck just over a week ago.

He had entered hospital for a checkup because he felt unwell, tests showed no obvious problems, however he passed away in the hospital that same night due to suspected heart failure. The post mortem could find no reason for this - and an open verdict was recorded.

A planned feature on Dagaband in "Classic Rock presents Prog" magazine (still upcoming) by writer Malcolm Dome was the catalyst that had brought Greg and myself back together earlier this year after a very long gap. Greg was thrilled and inspired that after two and a half decades of inactivity there could still be enough interest in Dagaband to warrant a magazine feature and we had enthusiastically set about making plans for the Dagabands return. However these plans were to be cut tragically short and this reformed Dagaband - 2010 style, was only to have lasted a mere two months. - Ironically Greg didn't even live long enough to see his interview for the magazine come to print.

Originally formed in 1975, many people will remember Dagaband through the early eighties so called progressive rock revival when they came to the public eye alongside groups such as Pallas, Marillion, Solstice and Twelfth Night, though additionally they had actually also already enjoyed a period of comparative success a few years earlier, by having been associated with what was then known as the new wave of British Heavy Metal - NWOBHM. A firey performer onstage, Greg who'd played his very first gig in 1967, had become known for his flamboyant stage show and was definitely one of the more colourful characters of the UK prog scene at that time. Dagaband gigs were legendary for his onstage antics and he will be remembered for having brought a sense of fun to an idiom that had a reputation for po faced seriousness. - However to dwell on his showmanship too much, would be doing a great disservice to his extraordinary level of musicianship; a great improviser, his lengthy wild and free-form improvs interspersed between classical structures were utterly compelling - and it was their inspired spontaneity not to mention their sheer intensity that helped set Dagaband apart from their contemporaries.

It was a very different Dagaband announcement we had been preparing ourselves to make. - On the cusp of a new chapter, Greg had been psyching himself up for what he thought was going to be a triumphant return, a second coming and we were expecting to make an announcement about new beginnings, new horizons and new life for The Dagaband. - A "Second Time Around" to quote the title of the 1983 vinyl EP single release.

Instead I find myself having to write these words for him, saying Goodbye. - Goodbye both to and from Greg Boynton...

R.I.P. Greg
On a personal note I was involved briefly with the Dagaband in the early 80s and as Nick says Greg was a colourful character, a genuine guy and fine performer [Bob M].
