After playing a short set together last weekend at a benefit for the Hoping Foundation in Oxfordshire, England, the duo plan to reunite at least once more, performing "Comfortably Numb" at one to-be-determined stop on Waters' upcoming tour celebrating the 30th anniversary of The Wall. In a post on his Facebook Wall, Waters detailed the back-and-forth exchange that resulted in the reunion.

STEVE MORSE: releases "Angelfire" a collaborative work with singer/songwriter Sarah Spencer...
Acclaimed guitarist/composer Steve Morse has teamed up with breakout singer/songwriter Sarah Spencer to release Angelfire, an album of haunting, harmony-laden acoustic songs.
Steve Morse is often described as a "musician’s musician," acclaimed amongst artists but eschewing the public limelight. The six-time Grammy nominee is renowned as much for his writing as his guitar playing, garnering such accolades from peers as being voted “Best Overall Guitarist” for five consecutive years (Guitar Player magazine). Morse adeptly fuses a wide range of musical styles, including jazz fusion, bluegrass, southern rock, baroque classical and metal. Whether playing with the Dixie Dregs, the Steve Morse Band, previously with Kansas or currently (going on 15 years) with Deep Purple, Steve continues to leave his mark as a distinctive songwriter and guitarist.
Sarah Spencer, 22, grew up in a musical family. She began piano lessons at age six, and was recording original material at ten. At 14, she was cast in a VH1 reality show (ultimately cancelled) that followed the lives of teenage prodigies. She wrote in the operatic pop genre, inspired by orchestral movie soundtracks. Spencer began working with established producers during her teens, recording live-orchestral songs with producers Paul Weston and Al Steele.
Sarah met Steve when she was 16, and they began collaborating on what was to become Angelfire. “When I first heard Sarah sing, I was amazed…I’d never heard a voice so pure,” says Morse. “My first thought was to write an album with her so I could hear and share it with other people.” Sarah responds, “Steve has been so generous throughout our collaboration. Everyone knows about his incredible talent, but only a lucky few know about his big heart. I feel so blessed to be able to work with this renaissance man!”
Their collaboration represents several firsts for them both. Even after 44 albums, Steve has never written a vocal album. Sarah is stepping out front as a performer and songwriter. And despite their cumulative experience spanning multiple genres of music, neither has written anything that sounds like Angelfire.
At first imagining Sarah McLachlan meets John McLaughlin, or the collaborative approach of Robert Plant and Allison Krauss, Angelfire soars beyond compare into the hearts of audiences eager for fresh, unique new music.

PETER HAMMILL/ VDGG: In his latest news update Peter Hammill mentions (albeit briefly) that work is progressing well on the new VdGG album...
It's been an active couple of months, though. The VdGG backing tracks for the next album are all done and we're (still) doing overdubs and nudging it towards completion. Which will be, of course, only when it's done. Sounding interesting and satsifyingly different, mind. And still, since you ask, just the trio.
For all information regarding VdGG then visit the Phil Smart's informative Van der Graaf Generator website...

RED JASPER: In news from Live Prog.com the Platform for Independent Music...
Since their last album, Anagramary, was released in 1997, it has been quiet around the UK folk/prog formation Red Jasper. However, for some time now, the members are back together and working on brand new material, after a hiatus of some 13 years...
The band announced today that the 6th Red Jasper studio outing will be entitled 'The Great and Secret Show'. It is only the second Red Jasper studio album to include a title track. The previous four albums have not contained a song with the same title as the album. 'The Great and Secret Show' the song, is based on the themes in the Clive Barker novel of the same name, and was the first to be worked on by the 'new' Red Jasper line-up.
Live work is still to be confirmed, but for recording purposes, Red Jasper will now comprise a four-piece unit; Robin Harrison - Guitars; DC - Drums & Lead Vocals; Jon Thornton - Bass; Lloyd George - Keyboards/arrangements. All four members have writing credits on this album in various combinations. The album follows on the progression of 'Anagramary', with a more mainstream progressive rock feel. The vocals of DC will certainly contribute to this.
For the die-hard RJ fans; they can rest assured that the older material will NOT be ignored when performing live. Older tracks such as Treasure Hunt, Virtual reality and even King of the Fairies are being considered for inclusion into the live set.
'The Great and Secret Show' is provisionally due for release via iTunes and CD in early 2011.

UNWRITTEN PAGES: release new album entitled "Noah"...
Unwritten Pages' Noah is an album born out of a passion for progressive, driving music, concept albums and 80's science-fiction films. It combines the broad musical taste of its creator Frederic Epe and the stylistic and unique musical backgrounds of each project member, reaching from rock and metal to Latin influences and more classical/score-oriented arrangements. The album features soaring guitars, fat organs and bone-breaking drums, as well as a healthy dose of retro. But most of all, it never loses its focus on unique and melody-driven song-writing. And it comes in the form of an ambitious story, told through the eyes of the vocalists and musicians. This double album features the talents of Damian Wilson (Threshold, Ayreon, Les Misérables), Karl Groom (Threshold, Shadowland), Davy Mickers (Stream of Passion, Ayreon), Alejandro Millán (Hello Madness, Stream of Passion) and many others.
"Noah" is the new worldwide ProgRock Records release from Unwritten Pages and can be found at

EDENSONG: release new album ....
Following their successful festival appearances at Progday (Chapel Hill, NC) and Three Rivers Progressive Rock Festival (Pittsburgh, PA) in 2009, Edensong returned to the studio in the fall with a new lineup. The result of their work is “Echoes of Edensong: From the Studio and Stage,” a full length, specially priced, part studio, part live album. The album, nearly an hour in duration, is comprised of brand new studio recordings, un-released live tracks from the band’s various festival performances (including a bonus track from Québec City’s Convention Terra Incognita), and a re-master, from mastering legend Bob Katz, of a song originally intended for inclusion on the band’s critically acclaimed 2008 debut “ The Fruit Fallen”, but never officially released. The new album features two fantastical original paintings from New Jersey artist Alison Silva, a perfect counterpart to the music of Edensong. The new album will be available on CD and as a digital download on August 10th from the band’s website and many other retailers, both in the US and internationally.
“Beneath the Tide,” the ten minute opening track of “Echoes of Edensong” is the album’s central composition and a retrospective look at the band’s deceptively long history. The song was originally written by Edensong singer/guitarist James Byron Schoen in 1997 with then band mates and fellow high school freshmen Anthony Waldman and Benjamin Wigler. The song was initially recorded in 1999 by the trio’s progressive metal band Echoes of Eden for their debut album of the same name. The band’s impromptu reunion onstage at 3RP in August 2009 and the subsequent integration of Waldman into Edensong as the band’s permanent drummer inspired Edensong to re-orchestrate, re-arrange and re-record this band and fan favorite. “No matter how many songs I write, I’m quite certain that I’ll always have a special fondness for ‘Beneath the Tide’,” says Schoen. “Years later, I’m still really proud of that one. I think we’ve ended every Edensong show we’ve ever played with it. It just has a great live energy. I’m thrilled that we finally have a recording, a mere ten years later, that does the song justice.”
Other notable songs include the ballad “Lorelai,” recorded to benefit the Haitian relief effort in the wake of the recent devastating earthquake; the re-mastered “To See But Not Believe,” a popular Edensong track never officially released; and a selection of epic live performances, including songs from “The Fruit Fallen” and the fateful Echoes of Eden reunion. The band plans to follow up the August release with a handful of shows throughout the east coast of the US, an immediate return to the studio to finish writing and begin recording for the band’s next full length studio album and various other top secret projects. Please check out www.edensongtheband.com for the latest news, media and links to all things Edensong.”

As announced in last week's news, Spock's Beard "X" Tour - One and only U.S. show!
In other news Spock's Beard has signed a licensing deal with Mascot Records and we are very excited about our new partnership with them. They will be releasing "X" standard edition at the end of August, and at that time it will be available at all the usual retail outlets, online distributors and digital download portals (iTunes, etc). In the meantime, you can still order our Limited Edition directly from us. Besides not having to wait for the standard edition, the Limited Edition has the additional advantage of a bonus track that will not be included on the standard edition.
Since the bonus track "Their Names Escape Me" will not be on the standard edition, we are putting it up on iTunes for download as a single. That should be available for download very soon. We have also created a "no-names" version that will most likely go up on iTunes as well."

PROGDAY FESTIVAL: News "Flash"...
In 1971, COLIN CARTER, formerly lead singer with PETER BARDEN'S CAMEL, initiated an idea with PETER BANKS, recently the first ex-YES guitarist, to form a new band. Musician RAY BENNETT had previously met Banks while staying with BILL BRUFORD, Bennett's former bandmate from THE BREED. Recently returned to London, Bennett arrived right on time to fill the bass spot. MIKE HOUGH, a hard working drummer with a jazz, rock and big band background, was discovered by Carter and Banks playing in a ballroom in London. Together they formed FLASH.
In the early 70s FLASH put out three albums on EMI/Capitol Records, had the hit single "Small Beginnings" (#28 Billboard), and toured Europe and the USA four times. They even made it to Australia. But after two and a half years, FLASH disbanded. All four members later reunited in various combinations during the late 70's and early 80's. But by 1982 the FLASH members had gone their separate ways.
In 2002 all four original members made contact again and were initially enthusiastic about a FLASH reunion. Now spread out across the globe, plans to get together were discussed over several months. However, in the end, Banks and Hough failed to commit. In late 2004 it was FLASH songwriters Ray Bennett and Colin Carter who began working together again. They discovered that the old chemistry was still there and in 2005 they officially re-launched their musical partnership as FLASH.
2009 saw the almost miraculous resurrection of the fully realized FLASH. Gibson Guitars listed FLASH's "In the Can" as one of their top 10 vintage classic prog-rock albums. Also in 2009, all of their albums were reissued. Now, with a spectacular new 5 piece line-up and a studio album of new material in the works, these prog-rock pioneers set sail again with renewed vigor and their hallmark originality, ready to continue their saga. Advance copies of the new album should be available in September at Progday.

The 16th ProgDay Festival takes place on Saturday 4th September and Sunday 5th September 2010 at Storybook Farm, North Carolina, USA.
