DAVID BYRNE & BRIAN ENO: news from David Byrne ....
Brian Eno and I recently finished our first collaboration in about 30 years. For the most part, Brian did the music and I wrote some tunes, words and sang. It's familiar but completely new as well. We're pretty excited. In August the music will be available via this Web site, free for streaming and available for purchase in a variety of options that allow you to download immediately and receive physical formats when they become available later in the Fall. One of the songs will be available free of charge.
In September I will begin a tour, on which I will be playing music from the new album as well as music from our previous collaborations - 3 Talking Heads albums, Bush of Ghosts, etc. If you'd like to be updated as this story unfolds, please add your email address via the box below (we will not contact you for any reason other than to tell you about this David Byrne and Brian Eno project and the tour and we promise not to give or sell your contact to anyone else or even to the government).

THRESHOLD: announce a further UK tour date ....
British progressive metal band Threshold have added another UK date to their schedule, performing at Mr Kyps in Poole on 9 November. The band recently played rare shows in Spain and Italy as part of a drive to double their touring commitments to promote their latest studio release "Dead Reckoning". Threshold's Live Reckoning tour continues throughout the year with festival headline appearances in Greece, England, Holland and Switzerland.
The concert at Mr Kyps will be a double headline event with progressive rockers GALAHAD opening and Threshold closing the night. Galahad's latest album "Empires Never Last" was co-produced and mixed by Threshold's Karl Groom (Dragonforce, Trigger The Bloodshed, Edenbridge) at his Thin Ice Studios facility in Surrey.
Threshold's latest single "Pilot In The Sky Of Dreams" was recently featured on the soundtrack of the movie "In The Name Of The King". The video for the single can be viewed below:
GALAHAD: In the news mentioned above regarding the double headline event with Threshold at Mr Kyps in Poole on 9th November, Galahad have also announced that other developments include "Empires Never Last" being available on itunes for download.
Galahad are also in the process of reissuing various old albums via their friends Oskar from Poland, the latest is Two Classic Rock Lives, which features the original remastered version of Classic Rock Live plus an extra live concert CD of a gig the band played at Mr Smiths in Bournemouth back in 1985!
Nothing Is Written and Following Ghosts have also recently been re-released. Other Crimes and Misdemeanours 1 will also be re-released shortly containing extra tracks available on CD for the first time, more details when we we have more information. All the albums will be available from Oskar and the band.
Meanwhile, the band are in the process of writing new material for the follow up to "Empires Never Last"!
GEOFF DOWNES: will be appearing on Sirius Satellite Radio this weekend. He will be interviewed by former MTV VJ Martha Quinn about his career with specifics about what it was like to have "Video Killed The Radio Star" as the first-ever video on MTV (today marks the 27th anniversary of the launch of MTV). For details and air-times, check out Geoff's website.
RICHARD BARBIERI: The Porcupine Tree keyboardist's second solo album, Stranger Inside is scheduled for release on K-scope on September 15th.
Richard Barbieri‘s amazing musical career has spanned four decades, taking him from the seminal recordings he made with Japan in the seventies right through to the current worldwide success he is enjoying with Porcupine Tree. Stranger Inside is his second solo album.
Barbieri wrote and produced the album himself but is assisted by a host of familiar faces from throughout his career. Steve Jansen (Japan, Nine Horses) mixed and co arranged the album, it was mastered by Steven Wilson (Porcupine Tree) and features guest musician appearances from Gavin Harrison (PT) and the legendary double bass player Danny Thompson, whose incredible CV includes Pentangle, Nick Drake, T Rex, Kate Bush, John Martyn and many, many more.
In addition to this nearly all tracks, though instrumental in nature, feature the sampled voices of Tim Bowness (No-Man) and Suzanne Barbieri.
To complete the package the artwork and design has been created by Carl Glover and Luigi Colasanti (both longtime PT collaborators).
Stranger Inside is in stores from September 15th and will be available digitally from September 8th.
To download a FREE track from Stranger Inside, listen to a six minute sampler of the album, download desktops and more, go to the Stranger Inside minisite at Kscope.

PROGDAY: Preshow On the Friday!
ProgDay is happy to announce the performance of two great bands. On Friday night, August 29, LOCAL 506 in Chapel Hill will be hosting Kinetic Element
and Speechless.
Led by "Mad Organist" Mike Visaggio, Kinetic Element is a keyboard based progressive rock trio that was originally formed to perform the music from "Starship Universe" (2006), a solo CD by Mike. The band continued to perform and write. Currently, in addition to "Starship Universe," the band's repertoire includes original material from their newest opus, "The Powered By Light Suite," as well as covers of selected classic prog tunes.
Speechless is an instrumental mix of rock, jazz, classical, world, funk, metal... (pretty much everything the band members love) all tossed in a blender and shaken well. Their debut CD ranked #46 in the Gagliarchive's Global Progressive Top 100 Poll of 2007, and in 2008 their song "Stella" was awarded "Best Progressive Rock Instrumental Indi Performance" by the Progressive Rock Hall Of Fame.
ProgDay, the world’s longest running progressive rock festival, takes place this year on August 30th and 31st at Storybook Farm near Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Bands this year are Secret Oyster (Denmark), Ain Soph (Japan), Canvas Solaris (US), Cheer-Accident (US), Holding Pattern (US), VonFrickle (US), Abigail's Ghost (US), Mirthrandir (US) and Pinnacle (US).
For more information about the Friday Preshow, to hear music and get information about all the ProgDay bands, please visit our website at www.progday.com.

HENRY COW: A few week's ago we announced that in this September ReR label are set to release The 40th Anniversary Henry Cow Box Set comprising of nine CDs, one DVD and two books...
Assembled over 15 years, this collection gives for the first time some idea of the breadth and depth of Henry Cow's work. Always very much a live band, performance was their metier, and a concert might range far - always driven by an intense dialogue between tightly knit compositions and radically open improvisation. The officially released LPs tell at best only half this story, and one purpose of this definitive collection is to set the work back into its broader context. These are all previously unreleased recordings, that include many compositions and improvisations new to anyone who only knows the official releases, documentation of a number of one-off projects and events and - where different or remarkable enough to justify inclusion - live versions of parts of the LP repertoire. Many of these recordings are high quality radio transcriptions taken directly from the original masters, others are less hi-fi, but justified we think by their historic and musical quality. And everything has been carefully transferred and re-mastered by Bob Drake to the best audio quality that current technology allows without interference or tampering. It's all a million times better than the terrible bootlegs that are swimming around. Altogether, these 9 CDs embody some extraordinary, and occasionally prescient music. Taking this box together with the officially released albums, it is possible at last to get some impression of the extensive ground Henry Cow covered in it's 10 short years.
Finally, there is the DVD: 80 minutes of the 1976 Cow (with Georgina Born and Dagmar Krause) performing many unreleased pieces as well as Living in the Heart of The Beast, Beautiful as the Moon &c. This is the only known video recording in existence - professionally made, multi camera - and has not been recovered since its original broadcast (just scour U-Tube, HC is conspicuous by its total absence). And last but not least, there is a great deal of written, photographic and textual documentation. Since this will probably be the last and definitive collection, it has to be thorough. For reasons of fairness and cost we have decided to split the set into two boxes - which can be bought separately or together. VOL 1 covers the period 1971 to the 1976 Hamburg radio show which documents John Greaves' last concert with the band, as well as the extraordinary Trondheim concert from the quartet tour that immediately followed. VOL 2 takes the story through to 1978 and includes more previously undocumented compositions as well as the Bremen radio recording. The Stockholm CD belongs to this second box, which also contains the DVD.
ReR have also put out an appeal for Henry Cow "live" photographs - please email rermegacorp @ dial . pipex . com if you can help

NEARfest: PFM to headline NEARfest '09
Quintessential: the essence of a thing in its purest form. The perfect word to describe NEARfest's first band announcement for 2009, the mighty PFM. The beauty and power of the music from this classic Italian band, along with contemporaries Banco and Le Orme, started what had become known as the classic Italian prog movement.
Premiata Forneria Marconi (PFM) was officially formed in Milan in 1970 when the members of Quelli met Mauro Pagani from the group Dalton. Pagani helped the group expand their sound to include violin and flute. By this time they were already highly experienced musicians and easily able to play the kind of complex progressive heavy rock played by the leading English and American groups. With such classic Italian albums as "Storia di un minuto," "Per un Amico" and "L'isola di niente" as well as later works such as "Chocolate Kings" and "Jet Lag," PFM cemented themselves a place in progressive rock history. With core members Franz Di Cioccio, Franco Mussida, and Patrick Djivas, PFM remain a highly sought after live act. Their last two albums, "Dracula" and "Stati di Immagini" are complete returns to their progressive ethos and are essential recordings. Their energy and intensity are legendary, almost mythical, which makes their agreement to perform for the "new guard's" first NEARfest an absolute honor. NEARfest is extremely proud to welcome PFM as a headliner for NEARfest '09.

DPRP has reviewed Evolution of the Jazzraptor in 2003 and Tame Until Hungry in 2007.
HDK: Another signing on the Seasons Of Mist record label is that of Sander Gommans' project HDK. This is what they said:
Season of Mist is happy to let you know that the label just inked a deal with new Dutch project HDK, whose main man is no other than AFTER FOREVER co-founder, main songwriter, guitarist, and grunter Sander Gommans. Needless to say, we're very happy to welcome him to the Season of Mist roster! Here's the man's comment:
"I've been working very hard on my project HDK for several years, so it was very important for me to find a label that is specialised in the more extreme side of metal, but also experienced in the style of AFTER FOREVER. I already worked together with Season of Mist when they released the first AFTER FOREVER albums in France, so I know they will do a good job for HDK as well. My project is a mix of all kinds of metal styles, the label has to be able to give it its full attention in order to promote this the right way, and I feel confident Season of Mist is able to do that perfectly!"
The band includes: Amanda Somerville (Vocals), André Matos (Vocals), Ariën van Weesenbeek (Drums), Joost van den Broek (Keyboards), Jos Severens (Vocals), Patrick Savelkoul (Vocals), Paul Niessen (Vocals), Peter Vink (Bass) and Sander Gommans (Guitar and Vocals).
HDK's first album "System Overload" is slated for an early 2009 release, so stay tuned for more news soon! You can also check www.myspace.com/sandergommans.
