| dprp is the best online prog news | Thank you! |
| More counting out time! Cheers! | This is our intention - cheers! |
| -more italian reviews -more updates in releases pages | Hopefully we will have some more Italian albums for review in 2004. |
| - a specilist of neo-prog and symfo music reviewer.(more reviews of these style, a bit less of metal-prog) - more competitions. - a cd spotlight of month or 15 days - | Funny you should say that - we will be looking to recruit some new CD reviewers soon to cover specific areas. |
| dprp is the best progrock website I know. stay progressive! | We'll try - thanks! |
| While we do not actively follow "forgotten" bands as such (they're hard to follow ;-)), we do pay attention to them, for instance in our Forgotten Sons section. Also, when any news crops up about such bands, we try to publish it on the news page. |
| good job ! | Thank you. |
| i cant comment on any changes to dprp because I only discovered you this year. | See you again next year then! |
| I would like to have back the concert guides for the rest of europe, not only the netherlands.. | We're working on it. |
| more attention for the rest of europe like concerts and reviews in spain for example congratulations, is a great page | We're working on it. |
| nice one! | Thank you! |
| superb site!!! there isn't much you can't read about here in this genre. extremely ambitious! best there is! just stumbled across this site and I really really enjoy it. I just wanted to say that. | Many thanks for your comments. |
| tanx for all!!! fred | You're welcome |
| Be careful with the concert guide: Kamelot and Rush... | We lay the blame completely with the promotors. If they announce a concert, we publish it, if they decide this announcement was premature, we remove it. Sorry 'bout that, but you'll be glad to hear that Rush is coming to Holland after all. |
| Better listing of upcomming releases by artists and a more frequent news listing. | We are hoping that someone will take over the CD releases Section and give it the attention it needs. |
| can't think of any possible changes right now. carry on the great work for prog music!! | Many thanks! |
| DPRP has been and is still the best Progressive Rock information source in the net. Especially the weekly news section is great! Keep up the good work! | Many thanks for your comments. |
| drop the numeric ratings from your reviews! lol | Perhaps we should run another poll... |
| enjoy updates about twelfth night and pallas, I enjoyed seeing them in the early 80s and am glad to see they are remembered (tn) and still going from strength to strength (pallas) | Many thanks - I'm sure there will be more in 2004 |
| get rid of all the cheesy neo-prog and prog-metal subquality and try to listen to real music. dprp is not a search-for-prog page anymore. it became a website where you can only see what dprp members receive in their mailbox. have you ever heard of half the names I mention in my 2003 votes? and if so... did you give it a real progressive listening? | Some people like "cheesy" neo prog and prog metal. However why not voice your thoughts on the DPRP Forum page and see what reaction you get from other readers? |
| Good work ! Very important site for me and for Progressive and Symphonic Rockfans...!!! Go on and lots of succes !!! | Thanks! |
| great job! hold on! | we intend to ! |
| great page !!! need I say more ??? | Nope. |
| Great site! Keep up the good work and stay on top! | We'll try. |
| due lack of time of some members the site is serious in danger. | The site has been undergoing so many changes that it may not be apparent that our skills have had to be divided. Hopefully as things will settle down and as our team expands our members can refocus their efforts |
| "I complained about this at last years poll and I will do it again. It's absolutely too much heavy metal or near heavy metal bands that appears in this page. Unfortunately there's too little prog on this site. Only beacuse some bands like to listen to Yes or King Crimson doesn't make them a progband. At least half of the shit that is posted on this site is NOT prog in my opinion. It was far better a couple of years ago. Sorry..." | No need to be sorry - that is the whole point of the feedback. In previous years we have had some criticism that we have ignored the ProgMetal side. To this end we took on a couple of ProgMetal reviewers - who have been prolific in their writing. We see that this has been an added feature rather than replacing more accepted areas of Prog. We are planning to take on some other specialised reviewers - but we will NOT be ignoring those more conventional areas of Prog |
| i live in the us, but the dprp continues to be one of my favorite resouces for prog news and information. keep up the good work! | We aim to please - thanks. |
| i love the way you guys have picked up dprp after it seemed almost dead at the end of last year when I left. respect! especially derk's news is top-notch, as is the consistancy of henry with the dutch gig guide, and bj's commitment. the new reviewers do a wonderful job, although the grades are still not critical enough in my opinion. keep up the wonderful work! | Thank you very much, and glad you returned! |
| i only discovered you in the last year. you are a godsend - real people with real opinions who care only for quality, not fashion. keep it up. | We will try to keep this moving forward - thanks for your support |
| i would like less emphasis on the so-called 'prog'- metal movement. | Prog-metal does exist and we, as a prog site felt we should cover it, that's why we have aimed at Prog Metal Specials, which are in addition to our normal Reviews updates. |
| I'd like to see more of Counting Out Time. Other than that, keep up the great work! | Now that the site has changed hosting and things are starting to settle down a bit more we can hopefully look at restarting this popular section |
| It is O.K. :-) | You're OK, too ;-) |
| it is the best prog site. | This is what we like to hear. |
| keep up the good work! thanks! | You are more than welcome. |
| more competitions please and more detail of forthcoming concerts throughout europe. | Last year we doubled the amount of competitions and we will try our best to beat the number this year. |
| More regular articles in Counting Out Time and Forgotten Sons. How about expanding the Concert Guides to include more European countries (not just Holland and Belgium). | Absolutely! As for the Concert Guides we plan to look into this very soon. |
| my only criticism is that you promised to restart counting out time this year, but we have not seen a single album presented this year, and only a few last year. otherwise, great pages and I find the news and reviews particularly useful. ciao, tron | I am afraid that with the site transfer our efforts were directed away from some sections and focussed in on others. We plan to restart Counting Out Time and relook at the Forgotten Sons very soon! |
| not really necessary. even staying away from europe for so long makes not all sections interesting for me, this web site is an excellent source of inspiration and advise on new releases in progressive music. | Many thanks |
| please span your spectrum wider, not all of neo prog is prog ( some is really boring ) my hope for 2004 is more openess and more live in the east and north of Germany | We are planning to take on new reviewers to look at other areas of "prog" |
| still the best! | glad you think so |
| with the vast number of reissues around, it would be nice to have a question about favourite reissues in next year's poll!
new updates in counting out time (last update dec. 2002 and forgotten sons, hence the (-) entries.
as always, the more reviews the better, especially the round table reviews which are always nice to read. | Re-issues, that is awfully difficult to incorporate in an end-of-year poll, as it is difficult to determine the date of re-issue. |
| """i would like to see a change in the cd review section, there is no point having a review as long as a novel. to make a point in a shorter way would be much more preferable. also most reviews comes alittle bit late and the !
overall ratings are generally unfoundedly high!" | The problem with shorter reviews that it is so easy just to make glib remarks and not offer any help to the person who may be thinking of buying that album. I see so many "reviews" on other sites that are a paragraph long and merely paraphrase what is on the bands website! As for the ratings these are caused by the vagaries of the individual reviewer - perhaps have a look at some of their other reviews and I believe a pattern will emerge. Sorry I think I've done another novel. Thanks for your comments. |
| a section featuring either mp3 demos of new prog bands, or a links section to same. the sound sample links in the reviews section has introduced me to many new bands, but a focused section would be even better. | Unfortunately copyright laws in Holland prohibit putting out MP3s on a site, without paying loads of money to an authority which in its turn doesn't pay a single dime of copyright revenue to artists who aren't associated with them. Since 85% of the bands and artists we review are either independent or on small labels, we feel this isn't particularly fair to them (nor to our wallets!) |
| a suggestion: to compare the conclusion better to the albums (you can't consider 8 or 9 points to a new album in comparison with the points of the progressive classic of other decades). | Why not? Sometimes these new albums are far more innovative than the so-called classics of the past! |
| About last year, I had never imagined of Prog Metal special on DPRP page. I really appreciate DPRP occasionally features several prog metal bands' reviews. Not many prog rock sites do not provide good reviews toward prog metal music, however fairly DPRP provide really nice verdicts. The reviewers throughly listen to every music, so I really enjoy reading and browsing the info and reviews mostly. Keep up your good work. Thank you very much | Unfortunately quite a few people don't agree with you and feel we've overdone it a little in 2003. We intend to keep the prog metal limited to the prog metal specials in 2004, so that the opposers of the genre can easily ignore these reviews. |
| DPRP = my browser home page - both at work and at home ....... definitely my favourite site of them all. | wow! |
| i congratulate every single one of you on the dprp team. you guys are doing a phenominal job to keep prog rock alive. | we do our best and its nice to know our efforts are appreciated |
| I'd like to see Counting Out Time Updated for 2000, 2001, 2002, etc. Counting Out Time is what introduced me to Porcupine Tree with the article on Stupid Dream. | as we have said before we hope to restart Counting Out Time very soon |
| "If anything needs to be changed, it is the way that albums are reviewed. I don't think I have ever seen the reviewers give less than a 5 or 6. There is no way that many albums are above satisfactory in quality.
In addition, when there is a round-table review, usually the 3 or 4 people who review give the exact same score. If you're going to try to accomplish an in-depth review, make sure the people reviewing aren't just going to repeat what the previous person said and then give the same number.
Basically, i'd like to see a little more criticism on the albums. | I am sure the bands who have received lower than a 5 in the last year wouldn't agree with you there. As to the Round Table Reviews our reviewers are located far from each other and therefore don't see what the others are writing until it has been assembled by the Reviews Editor and uploaded. That way they write what they think themselves and are not influenced by others. Thanks for your feedback. |
| Keep up the good work chaps! | We'll try our best |
| MORE CONCERN ABOUT GREEK FANS.WE DO EXIST. | How can we help you - let us know - give us some feedback ! Why not visit the Forum Page and discuss it with other DPRP readers |
| Some reviwers, I my opinion, mark a little too high during 2003. However as long as they are consistant with their marking then a pattern will be seen and you will be able to see that, that reviewer is slightly more generous with his/her points. Thanks for your feedback | Yes, there is a pattern and it's your best guide to determining the value of what is after all a subjective grade of an album. |
| still the best site for prog news and re-views! keep it up in 2004! | It is our aim to constantly review and improve the site and hopefully you can see major changes in the coming year. |
| the cd reviews are my fave section. you guys do a great job, with fair reviews, and I really appreciate the time spent. my only comment is the fact that, sometimes, you guys review some bands that will do very little, or maybe nothing for prog in general. I know that there's more prog bands out there now than ever, but there's also a lot or garbage, and I mean a lot ! keeping the garbage away would be cool. besides that you guys are by far the best prog site, no one gets even close. happy 2004, peace and music. | Many thanks. As for the "garbage" - all I can say is one man's junk is another man's treasure. We do attempt to make sure that any album reviewed is either prog, prog releated or would at least be of interest to prog readers. Sadly we cannot please all the time, but we do try. Many thanks for your support. |
| Change nothing. It's just too bad we here in the States do not hold progressive rock in the same light as you in Europe. If it was not for the Internet, or places like the various band's web pages, or Amazon.com or places like that, it would be difficult for me to hear the best of what I call the third wave of progressive rock. I would take!
any of the releases on my best of list, and put them against any release by any artist this year. You publication is invaluable in keeping me pointed to the best in progressive music, and the best in music. | Many thanks for this positive feedback. |
| Don't be so literal about prog releases and reviews. There are many
"fringe" bands that aren't labeled prog but are still great. Example:
Mogwai, Sigur Ros, Elbow, Doves, Do Make Say Think, etc...
Or at least have a section of non prog releases BUT prog fans would
enjoy... | Your comments brougt a smile to my face as I have just finished answering the comments to another reader who probably wouldn't agree with you! I think the comments made above apply here, but we'll try to include some of those bands. |
| I can not put my finger on it, but to me the website got less interesting in the past years. | Could be - as mentioned above we have spent a considerable amount of this year (behind the scenes) making necessary changes to the site. Sadly some sections like Forgotten Sons and Counting Out Time have been neglected. |
| i like the regular email updates and the fact that they give a good clear indication of whats new | Many thanks - views are mixed on this one. |
| i would like to know something more about proghistory. is it possible to add some more articles? it would be great. thanks :-) | Yes - soon |
| keep on going the very good work. thanx for you good information in the past. I have visited no concert (reason: my health). | We will - and hope your health improves so that you may be able to go to see some concerts. Take care |
| more about the prog scene in the uk!!! | Is there one? Seriously, much depends on the information we receive! |
| more 'counting out time' reviews. | Yes |
| More specials!! | Yes |
| Not really, you guys are still the best out there!!!!! Thankyou! | and Thankyou!!!! |
| Sorry but I didnt buy 10 albums this year so only filled in the ones I had heard | Not to worry, best to vote for what you have bought and like. |
| teveel (prog) metal. Te weinig reviews van bands uit niet west europese landen | We cannot please everyone. |
| thank you for ten choices | You are welcome |
| the quality stayed the same. but they're where changes for example there's some special on instrumental cds (not my bag but its cool for fans).
even if i'm not that much on prog metal I quite enjoy read them (they're presence are augmenting but it's cool that's in a way the future of prog music; it's what the youngster preffer so...
not often we do have the opportunity to say thanks. it is one of those moments and i'll take it to say keep the good job and stay critict to albums | Thank you - nice to read a balanced response |
| We'll, I'd like to see the Wolverine cd, I won in the competition some months ago, come posted to me some day :) | You will - even if it is the last thing I do :-) |
| ' ga zo door ! ' | We will! |
| blijf zo doorgaan!!!!!! | We will!! |
| concert schedule updates in us, more emphasis on american idol.....just kidding. you guys and gals are doing an awesome job bringing this info to us prog heads. I would like to give a big group hug to all at dprp! | Group hug all :-) |
| Don't e-mail so many notices | A topic of much debate among the team! |
| first time visitor. will be coming back much more in 2004!!! | glad to hear it |
| I am really content with this site! | Well, thanks and we will keep trying to improve |
| I have never even seen this site befor this is actually my first time here. I will make a bookmark of this site and check it out. Maybe next year I can answer the questions. So far of what I see, looks good. | see you next year then |
| if there is any way for you to find a way to review american concerts, that would be great, although I realize that that is probably impossible | Our concert reviews section is open to all - please feel free everyone. It would be great to hear of concerts from around the globe. |
| ik werk pas sinds kort weer in nederland en heb jullie pas in december 2003 gevonden, ik hoop in 2004 vaker jullie website te bezoeken | Please do! |
| It would be nice for reviews to come quicker after releases. Some reviews this year were really late. Other than that, your site is a really great source of valuable information, and it's very entertaining. Keep up the good job! | Point taken, although it should be noted that we sometimes receive albums months - even years after their release! |
| keep on proggin' !!!! | We will ! |
| Keep up the great work! | Thanks - we'll try |
| make sure you review the stuff that does matter instead of reviewing a lot of borderline prog stuf. | Trouble is that it is sometimes difficult to decide what is borderline. |
| maybe some forums? i'm not sure if they're already there, have to look around a bit. | They do exist - have alook |
| mmm i've noticed a small musical change, more metal reviews then pure prog.; I think that's a pitty.
i miss some great interviews with great names, mostly autumn, tangent, manning, rpwl, porcupine tree.
but still the best site, prognose is getting close,
nick from the lovely south of the netherlands at http://home.hccnet.nl/n.wywh/who_symfoindex.htm | mmm - well not so much a change, more of an addition to what we already did. We did more reviews in 2003 than ever and part of that increase covered ProgMetal. Prognose is a fine site!
As for interviews - we have interviewed The Tangent and Porcupine Tree. Mostly Autumn wasn't interested (or rather, their management wasn't) and Manning and RPWL should indeed be interviewed soon. We'll do our best! |
| More Counting Out Time and Forgotten Sons. | Yes -soon |
| More or longer news items | As for more: we publish almost everything we get. As for longer: we would love to, but it is just not feasible right now. |
| more updates of the 'new releases' section new updates of 'counting out time' | Yes - soon! |
Not really, maybe something along the lines of Clayton Walnum's 'personal' thoughts on life in the progressive world (see www.progressiveworld-net) would make for a nice column, but it's not a small undertaking.
Also : I'm not so enamoured with the plethora of prog-metal reviews, but this is more a matter of taste than site-setup,as this proportion in favour of prog-metal probably reflects the CD-output in the market.
In general, DPRP is the best in the business, compared to Prog-Nose (also very good) and the Progressive World-net, two other sites I frequently visit. I particularly like the quality and quantity of the content, and the frequent updates, especially the last couple of months.
Congratulations and keep up the good work !
<[>
PS : for next year's DPRP-poll : could you state explicitly whether live-CDs (and even compilations and re-issues for that matter) are considered in-scope for the choice of top-10-CDs of the year ? (I've done so, but it's a bit of a grey area, especially if you consider a newly released live-rendition of an 'old' song the best song of the current year, e.g. 'The Truth will set you free' on the live-CD 'Meeting the Flower Kings' in my case - nonetheless, I've limited myself to new songs-proper for the best song of the year 03-poll).
| Clayton's thoughts are a pleasure to read - and as you say a lot of work. As for the ProgMetal visit the Forum we must discuss this soon. You were spot-on regarding live versions for best song vote - will add this to the poll rules next year! Thanks |
| please don't forget any RIO releases | We hope to rectify this in 2004 |
| Please, bring back 'Counting Out Time'!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! | Very soon !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
| The reason why I visit DPRP is because of the reviews. This last year I find more and more metal CD reveiwed. Personaly I think metal has nothing to do with prog-rock (but who am I?). | (but who am I?) A very important person to us. Your comments have been taken on board |
| an improved gig guide for the uk. | Working on it! |
| concert guide in Canada | We would probably need someone in Canada to help with this one? |
| don't rate too high, I start to beleive anything released is recommended!! ;-) | There were more releases last without the DPRP Recommended! tag. Best IMHO to read the article. |
| hello.please,more news and reviews. | okey-dokey |
| how about a database, better navigation and features to research and find specific information? | Your wish is our command. Part of the site restructuring has been aimed at a searchable database and improved navigation. It will take time but we are on with it. |
| i know that reviews are subdue to a certain amount of personal favour but keep the damage minimal. I sometimes really don't understand verdicts or arguments brought to the attention to reach them. sometimes I even read that reviewers hear a certain artist or band at first in order to review an album. well, in that case, logically that a well balanced overall verdict isn't reached. perhaps this is due to a shortage of reviewers, I don't know. | Not sure I fully understand what you are trying to say. References to other bands are to offer guidance in the review. Thanks for your feedback. Should you wish to discuss this further you could always try the DPRP Forum. |
| I said DPRP had stayed the same, but I'm a new fan. I haven't been coming to the site for a year yet. Frankly, staying the same means it's just as excellent a site as when I first discovered it. You guys are an indespensable part of my music researches | Hope in the next poll you will comment that the site has improved. |
| i would aprecciate a clearer fokus on prog-newcomers and less about main pop-acts or metal artists | We didn't do any pop did we? |
| if possible, more competitions :) | more competitions!!!!!!!!! OK we'll give it a go |
| it would be nice if cd' s of some of the more obscure bands could be ordered directly through dprp. sometimes it's really hard to get them. thubs up, keep up the great work! | Most of the time, albums of the more obscure bands can be obtained through the bands themselves, and we do try to include a link to the band's website in each review. |
| it would be nice if you could enhance/improve your coverage of the progmetal scene. otherwise, and as always, you're brilliant! keep up the excellent work!!! | The debate will continue - perhaps on the Forum |
| Just keep up the good work | OK - thanks |
| just to wish you a great 2004.all the best. | and the same to you |
| Keep going! DPRP is simply the best PROG-releated site on the web! | Many thanks |
| Less metal linked reviews + more Counting Out Time | What about ProgMetal in Counting Out Time? |
| Love the new forum!! Nice work guys. I'd like to see more symphonic prog reviews....seems to be a little heavy on the metal prog side lately. Overall, great site. | Many thanks - much work has gone into this - perhaps the place to discuss the "heavier" slant of DPRP in 2003 |
| maybe i'm not the only one, but try to change into dutch | That would be problematic for at least half our readership, who do not know Dutch, not to mention our several non-Dutch team members. |
| more concert reviews | Of course. Did we mention that submission of concert reviews is open to anyone? :-) |
| More jazz and fusion! :) | Nice idea! |
| more reviews, prior to release or asap following release would be nice in an ideal world. anyway, keep up the great work! | Quite often we receive the albums months after their release - if we do get it prior to release we do make every effort to review it prior to the release date. |
| More USA tour dates by European bands | We will probably need someone from the states to cover this one? |
| overall it is a great site-- the best prog site for sure. quite comprehensive & informative. I especially love the 'counting out time' section. keep up the good work. peter in vancouver. | Thanks Peter |
| please check old links to band-sites and sample-sites. | Working on it! |
| still the best progressive page on the net. I love reading the articles in the 'counting out time' section. but it's been to long since last update. all in all, keep up the good work. its a pleasure to updated by your net-page | Counting Out Time - way to long! |
| thanks for doing the poll! I don't own a dvd player - yet! and, living on vancouver island (off british columbia, the western most province of canada), there are simply no prog concerts within striking distance. | If it makes you feel any better, where I live in the UK there isn't much in the way of Concerts either - without a 4-5 hour round trip. |
| the cd reviews you did around newsyears day had the fireworks on the side (funny , you just left them!). don't do that again. it makes the reading almost impossible. | Well, it was a nice idea! |
| the concert guide should cover all of europe | it will, in due time. |
| The more reviews, the better ! | what even ProgMetal? |
| the review critera should be changed. for example: I did find only 1 review of my top 3 dvd's and at least I expected reviews of the saga and masterplan cd's out of my top 10 cd's list. | As DPRP is run by volunteers and without funding, we do not always have the funds to buy every DVD/CD. We therefore rely on our Team to purchase some releases - but money is often tight. |
| 1.would appreciate new info in counting out time section 2.and more about prog rock history 3.thank you very much for your efforts! | Coming soon |
| disregard my earlier empty submition please! and I just want to say thanks for all the good work you are doing. | Done! And many thanks |
| How about a CD sales chart if that is possible - I am always intrigued to know how well Progressive CD's sell. | That would be fascinating. Although on a global scale I doubt (other than a very few prog artists) that we would even register on the scale. |
| I would like to see polls for best album of all-time and best track of all-time. | Nice suggestion |
| I would love you to publish more info on live prog music in the States - it's hard to come by. | Even harder over hear I'm afraid |
| maybe too many reviewers belong to the hard side of prog rock. please don't forget the softer side / neo prog | We won't - we haven't. |
| more counting out time, please | Yes |
| more roundtable reviews please! | We'll see |
| Nothing, just glad you stopped generally hating progmetal and did some progmetal review-specials instead. So a minor improvement on a wonderful site. | Many thanks - although not all agree. I don't think we ever hated ProgMetal. |
| please, review clepsydra's albums. consider including abraxas into counting out time for these guys were simply brilliant. | We will look into these two releases. |
| some reviews are a bit late, sometimes more than 3 months after realease. more attion for progressive rock/metal and less for totally unknown symfobands which I have never heard of. | Sometimes we only receive the album after it has been on release for three months. I think the future of prog must lie with the "unknown" bands. |
| congratulations for your website! I would just like to see the reviews of the new releases appearing earlier than it happens now (e.g. the new dream theater appeared more than a month after it came out). also please dedicate less space to prog metal. | The record company did not send out advanced copies of the album, in fact, they hardly sent any copies out at all! So we went out and bought it in the shop, which of course, we couldn't do until the official release date. It takes a couple of weeks to digest the music about another to write it - revisit the album and make sure you are happy with what you have written. Then it takes the CD reviews Editor a few days to compile and check it. Hope this explains some of the delay certainly on DT. Erm aren't Dream Theater - balanced precariously in the metal camp? |
| dear friends, your site is great but I miss a lot more 'counting out time' frequently. the rest is as excelent as ever. saludos from argentina!!!! Pablo | Coming soon Pablo |
| how about a brief history and discography on prominent prog bands both past and present. | Nice idea! |
| I just surfed in. haven't been on this page before. saw your link at insideout's guestbook. this looks very interesting, and I will put you in 'my favourites' file for sure. keep up the good work!!! | Nice to have you on board. |
I still miss demo-reviews though all these bands must DPRP
give a chance. We who arrange them will get a chance to get a knowledge about them.
I don´t like when when people adore old "bodies" like Yes, Uriah Heep etc to the sky and then spit on bands like Fairyland, Stratovarius etc. In my opinion does each band fulfill a purpose so therefore is the concert with Nevermore in Gothenburg my biggest musical memory along with a concert we had with Exit, Cipher System & Elohim, three unknown demo-bands the 13 December here in Växjö - Sweden.
CheersTore / GARF-VÄXJÖ http://www.garfvaxjo.com | Thank you for comments. Sadly time prevents us being able to review demos and not that we don't wish these bands future success. I feel accepting demos would slow up the reviewing process even further. |
| I think there is a tendency towards to much metal on the site. For instance, there was recently a review of the new album from Tad Morose. I heard them live this year and found them to be a standard heavy metal band. There are other sites for that kind of music! | A lot of this has been covered above - thanks for your comments. |
| i'd liked to read more italian reviews, more update in the release pages. do a big update in the "long song". also, add new entries in "forgotten sons" and "counting out time".
very very good idea the dprpuzzle !!!
continue to have "competitions".
richard | Any suggestions on releases we have missed this year on the Italian front? FS and COT are coming soon. |
| i'd like to see a lot more reviews of cds. | We are planning to see if we can match last years output. |
| It would be nice to see something of an encyclopedia of prog started here, similar to gepr.net... if that's practical. | Lots of work me thinks in that. GEPR is an excellent site for this information. |
| it's great, good source of info for us far-flung prog fans!! | cheers for the feedback. |
| minor comment In the competitions, giving a copy of an album is not so interesting since most of us have already bought the album in question. Other than that, your DPRP is a great resource for new music in prog. | Some you might not of - this year we hope to give away some CD's from lesser known bands. What did you have in mind as prizes? |
| more frequent and/or in-depth news | See elswhere. |
| more rewiews of italian prog bands less focus on gothic /metal | covered just above |
| okay, so I voted for myself...hey, I have to get in the charts somehow! best wishes for 2004, arjen lucassen | Well somone had to vote for you - lol. Seriously good to hear from you and all our best wishes for 2004 |
| Please, don't praise any bad releases(even in spite of all previous merits). Last year there were many examples of doubtful positive reviews about imaginary achievements of well-known bands, such like Dream Theater, Royal Hunt, Enchant, etc. Opinions differ , even Arena's "Contagion" is one of the weak works of this great prog-act ... But next EP is the better one. | Opinions are what they are: opinions. For instance, Dream Theater's new album is a controversy, which implies some like it a lot and some hate it. |
| put scotland as a choice of country in next years poll. | thanks for entering the poll despite the (probably not to be rectified) omission. |
| Some features on independent bands such as Molly Bloom based in the UK | A reader suggested we review Molly Bloom and so we contacted the band who gladly supplied us with a couple of CD's We reviewed them and you can read them in Issue 8 from this year ! |
| The sections I left out, I honestly haven't visited (yet).
Anyway, only one website gets a full 10 -- mine. :) ----- J/K.>
Seriously though, I like the DPRP. One of our DJ's is involved with your operation and we're very proud of all he does in the business, with his bands and of course, with us.
Cheers!

Progressive Soundscapes Radio
www.progressivesoundscapes.com | Hi Ken - many thanks for the veiled praise ;-) Enjoy your "station" and have spent many an hour typing in front of my screen listening to Progressive Soundscapes. Keep up the good works! |
| Well dear friends @ DPRP, I think you're doing a great job here ! Please keep up doing so !!! All the best + regards,Anthony V. | Thanks Anthony |
| -congratulations to all the dprp crew, in special for cd reviews, the best in the world!. -what happen with counting out time?. no one article the past year. I wish you a lot of years of life to the site!!! pedro 'watcherofth | Thanks Pedro - Counting Out Time will be back soon! |
| Hi,
It seems that the overwhelming number of so called prog-metal acts has shifted the balance. It looks like all these releases are good, according to the reviewers. I purchased the ACT CD Last Epic, and to be blunt, It sucks !! I know that Neo-prog is a dirty word, but there have been a number of great releases this year. Not everything that is fast and loud is good. It sounds all the same to me. There are a lot of Dream Theaters "open" nowadays. Please hold the balance.
For the rest, nothing but compliments !!! | I quite liked the ACT album. There has been no change of direction within the site - we merely added to it with two specialist ProgMetal Reviewers. Judging from the number of "complaints" these guys must have been really busy in 2003. |
| i just want to say, dprp improves the lives of music/prog lovers, thank you for being around !!!! | you're welcome |
| I still find some of the colours used offensive to the eyes :) | Since January you will have noticed a few changes to the design of the site - hopefully you will now feel the site has a more standardised graphic feel. |
| I wish there was a column in the cd reviews index where you list the bands (or albums) in general catagories such as metal, symphonic, instrumental, fusion etc. that way, when someone looks at the index, they can see right away what kind of music | We are considering developing a searchable database so will take this comment on board. Trouble with trying to put music into categories is that they may not fit or may not fit more than one. |
| I'd like to see a seperate list of albums that receive a '9' or higher. Also, a link to buy an album if I like the review. | Not everything that recieves a 9 or above would appeal to everyone's tastes. I've had an idea on this one - watch this space. |
| in de concertagenda ook die van duitsland opnemen, zeker voor de mensen uit limburg. omdat de afstand naar amsterdam verder is als naar oberhausen. | we're planning on taking up the gig guides soon |
| It would be nice to be able to get updated about certain parts of the site. I for instance am mostly interested in new cd reviews, while concerts don't do that much to me.... | Sadly I don't think this is going to be possible - the Update Mailinglist is the closest thing we can do. You can judge for yourself whether you feel like visiting us after receiving a mail about the update we did. Furthermore, we do try to stick to standard days for the updates. CD reviews are updated on Wednesdays and Saturdays |
| just a note that the updates (mailing list) don't always make it to my mailbox (for whatever reason but just so that you know this). I only did notice this because I was expecting two updates, being the review of the neal morse solo album and a concert-review of camel that I wrote (!). these two were already placed on the site for several days before I noticed this (a friend told me about my review...). again, not such a disaster, just so that you know this. keep up the good work, you're still worth a 9 in my oppinion! | Only a 9 lol. More people have written to us about mailinglist problems. Have a look here for some possible solutions. |
| Just keep on doing what you do best! Thanks for all the work that the team put in - it really is a great site. | Many thanks for your comments. |
| keep on doing great job! your website is still the main place for the all prog-oriented news / events etc. all over internet. enough said! | More than enough - many thanks |
| Keep up the great work!!! | Thank you! |
| Maybe a 'beginners guide to prog' page, where a guide to different groups and styles could be covered? This may help people, who like a certain group, to discover similar bands. | I like that idea |
| More from the past like complete stories of Pink Floyd, Yes, but also Pallas in their first days etc. | this would be covered in Counting out Time and Forgotten Sons |
| More reviews. more more more | more reviews - are you sure? ok ok ok |
| on the review indexes I would like to see an extra column with the rating that is given to the cd. or an average rating in case of multiple reviews. I think this way people will read more reviews of little known bands that you gave a high rating, because you already have caught their attention. | It may be possible to add an extra column into the index. A word of caution though, if you only take the numeric conclusion as a guide you may miss some excellent albums. You may also find that the alum reviewed is in an area of Prog that may not suit you. See the ProgMetal debate!!! |
| referring to my concert guides vote I have to say that that section is focused only in low countries area, while I think your readers are far more spread. adding complete tour schedules will be far more better. especially for the ones (like me) that lives in depressed music area | we're planning on taking up the gig guides soon |
| Sack the reviewer who gave Train of Thought 5 out of 10 | Well that might also solve the ProgMetal debate! |
too many dprp recommended on cd reviews !!! and don't forget some italian bands ( la maschera di cera !!! ). | already covered in depth above. |
| you are focusing bit too much in neo-prog and more mainstream prog. more reviews and news about avant-garde-, rio- and more experimental prog would be nice. overall your site is one of the best anyway. keep up the good work! | We are currently looking for reviewers to look at other areas of prog. Although our first move into specialised reviewers has caused a bit of a stir |
| Concert Guides are not much useful for people living outside Netherlands (like me, in Italy) | we're planning on taking up the gig guides soon |
| thank you for your appreciate work ! | many thanks to you |
| please restart doing counting out time!!! | Coming soon |
| I'de like to see a dutch version of this site. Not that I have trouble reading English but maybe others have, dutch just reads easier. There are enough English sites. | At least half our readership is non-Dutch speaking, and a two-language version of the site would be too time consuming. |
| in the cdreviews, scores should be more "widespread" : when most of the time, it is in the range of 8 to 9.5 out of 10, then it is difficult to realize which albums is really worthwhile additionally, for the cds difficult to find in (e)-shops, you should indicate how where we can find them. thanks | Personally I would look more at what has been written in the review and don't place so much emphasis on the nimbering system. I have listened to some great music over the last year that didn't get a Recommended tag! As for the e-shops this will happen hopefully over the summer. |
| You've the most complete website about my favourite kind of music. I really appreciate your fantastic service. Good luck! | Many thanks for your words of encouragement. |
| If you put your station on iTunes, that would be great !!!!!! | Huh? |
| Check out the scandinavian rock scene - Mew, Kashmir, Kaizer's Orkestra - this is progressive music. Also some more from the american jam bands | OK |
| The news section should be maintained more acurate or change the name in two weekly newspaper! | The aim is for it to be a weekly newspaper. To rename it into a biweekly newspaper would be admitting defeat. |
| Your doing a great job, keep on improving! | we intend to ! - many thanks |
| Your page is as good as ever. My only advice is about the CD reviews section: I would like more objectivity in some of the reviews. Many times an album is reviewed by either someone who adores or someone who loathes the band in question and the result is sometimes a poor overview of that record.
But despite that aspect you've made a very fine work with your page!
Keep on working and "progressing" :-)
Cheers!
Victor. | Hi Victor. Funny old things reviews and to take up your point. Most of the reviewers receive the albums without prior knowledge of the band. (Not always, but often). Some are a pleasant surprise and some are not. I have listened to many a good album this year and it has been a pleasure to tell people about the music and the band. But there have been some that have not fitted my musical tastes and although I need to offer a constructive review sometimes it is very difficult to listen to something you don't enjoy. This applies to all the reviewers. Thankyou for raising the point - take care. |
| Would it be possible to have a list on the site, of music shops in various countries and cities which stock a good selection of prog, old and new. I travel quite a bit (especially in Europe) and generally when I'm visiting somewhere !
I always try to pick up some new prog, especially some of the more obscure stuff. Anyway, it would be nice if I was visiting a particular city, and I knew where to go to get my prog fix. I know this list might be hard to compile, but if you threw this suggestion out to people on the mailing list, we could supply the relevant info for our town or country. | I'm working on it as we speak - probably in the middle of the year! Although it will start to appear slowly over the next month or so |
| everything is wonderful! | We are glad to hear it - thank you |
| I really would appreciate a coverage and setlist of all Dutch and Belgian prog concerts. | Well, we can't be present at every single concert in these countries, so we depend on submissions to cover those we missed. |
| i would like to see 'counting out time' expanded. | Coming soon! |
| You guy have in my opinion the best site anywhere I look forward every day to your updates.I really like your reviews and trust the recomendations as I seem to have the same passion for this great music as you guys!!Keep it comming I am very gratefull for this MILLIONS THANKYOUS. | Words fail us - THANKS |
| You guys are doing a great job. Thank you for that. Keep up the hard work. | Thank you for your comments |
| As I will probably be the only one voting for Guy Manning et al can I say that I think he is really good? OK..he tries hard! | I voted for him ! |
| Less Prog, More METAL!!!!! | DMRP - doesn't have the same ring to it ;-) |
| you guys rule!!! | Thanks! |
| add a section where you can download complete music files | already covered. |
| Yes, It is my humble opinion that the ratings are much too high. It works inflatory. And the are too many hardrock/metal review. You're too much concentrated on English and American (and German) music. I missed a lot of Italian and East-European bands. | I think most of this has been covered above. But why not voice your thoughts on the DPRP Forum. We don't intentional concentrate on music from England and the USA, we just receive more from there. |
| I would like DPRP to keep covering artist like Radiohead, and Coldplay who don't exactly play prog, but are either progressive or have prog influences. | Not all might agree - but we have covered these bands. |
| keep on with the good work, you know yourself what to change, you always come with new good items, one thing in the poll I couldn't answer, how often do you visit dprp: I visit you every day, but that was no option, | Thanks! We realized we omitted that option: it'll be back next year! |
| as a non-dutch/belgian resident I so envy the concert guides! I understand the work behind it, but I hope for guides over the whole europe!
i tend to miss some new releases, and I would be glad to review some, but I don't have the time for a full "membership", how about alowing guest reviewers!? | I believe we have been in touch! |
| it's really okay, it all comes down to a difference in taste, in the cd-reviews for example.
what I do find disturbing however, is that sometimes an album that is not considered prog is not rated at all by the reviewer, and sometimes it gets a low note because of the same reason, although it might be a great album in its genre. you might consider not reviewing that kind of albums then. | Point taken. Although quite often it may be an artist/band that have prog conections and simply cannot be ignored. I doubt Phil Collins will ever produce another Prog album - but I feel we would review any release by him anyway |
| you could let us know the complete gigs of the bands, because I don't know if they are coming to spain!, I only get the german and belgian tour!.anyway, good work!. | Tour dates often appear in the News Pages |
| improve the linkside, for example by updating it more often. | We are working on streamling the Links at this very moment - which will hopefully make it easier to maintain! |
| Keep up the great work! | Cheers |
| To less reviews of already released albums (eg seventies symfo) | If you mean rereleases, those will be covered if interesting enough as a rerelease. |
| A bit less update mails. Sometimes I receive 3 update e-mails in one night. | I can't think that we ever send more than one out a day - apologies if we have. |
| you're on the right track, keep it up. | Good news - thanks |
| You guys definitely have the best web based site on the net. I have purchased quite a few discs thanks to your reviews and links to sample various bands. Thanks for being my introduction to some new groups destined to add to my collection. | Your comments are very much appreciated and hope that we are able to point you to more great music this year. |
| Your page it's great!! | and so are all of you! |
| thank you | thank you |
| We don't want to exclude our numerous non-Dutch speaking readers. |
| why do get daily visitors, not on the mailing list, no opportunity for the competitions?? | Is there any reason not to be on the mailing list. If so drop me a line. Bob |
| Thanks for existing! | and the same to you |
| Include best instrumentists categories on the poll!!! | Nice idea! |
| Back with COT | and so say all of us |
| Goede site vooral om bij te blijven v.w.b. releasel en de CD besprekingen zijn waardevol. | Thanks! |
| in my opinion it would be a good idea to make a separate section with the artists who have received (on your site) ratings 9 or higher. | Possibly - although the rating sometimes reflects the reviewers enthusiasm for a particular band or type of prog |
| Counting Out Time graag weer mee doorgaan | It will be done. |
| 1º mp3 2º pros and cons in the reviews | mp3 we cannot do (see elsewhere), pros and cons are in the review itself, of course! |
| por favor tomen en cuenta el pressure points de camel! | Lo intentamos! |
| wat meer recente recensies van onbekende artiesten en wat minder voor de grote namen, die zie je overal | I think we have rather a lot of more obscure albums in our columns. |
| add reviews of classic prog albums (lots of work, I know, but it would be useful). | Counting Out Time will come back this year and as many classic albums are being re-released this offers us the opportunity to re-visit these albums. |
| the cd reviews are very informative, I especially like the round table reviews and would have given a 10 rating. the only thing that stopped me is that often I have had a cd for some time before a review apears, the new dream theater cd for example, so am in a situation where I am comparing your opinions to my own rather than using the review as a guide. I do realise though that a lot of cds come out and resources are limited.
this is the best prog website that I am aware of, thankyou and keep it up. | It does take a little time to review some albums, so unless we receive it before the release date we are to late for some. The RTR reviews slow things up even further as they have to be sent to all the reviewers. After this you have to listen to the album a fair few times in order to offer a balanced opinion - so it all takes time. |
| A new Review Scale. The use of (almost) only 5-10 makes it silly. ( My 5's here is a neutral vote) | There is enough debate about the reviewing scale we have. Could I say that not many bands who have received a 5-10 have seen it as a neutral vote. Thankyou for your comments. |
| CD reviews are often a bit too long. | but not always, I hope. |
| Keep up! For the concert page, you might want to redesign it... Sorry, I entered it a second time: I forgot to put my name on it!!! | Thanks! |
| the dprp uk gig guide working would be nice | As soon as we find someone to do it. |
| uk concert listings back please | As soon as we find someone to do it. |
| it would save a lot of time if you added the update notes beside the links (especially enzines). some of them seem to have fallen far behind and still live around 2001-2002. | The ezine's section (as well as others) have been trimmed down recently. It would be a very big task to add updated notes to each site. As for the ezines - you can always be sure that DPRP has been updated! |
| More cd reviews (to the point), expand COT, Forgotten sons. More concert reviews (to the point). | We would love to! |
| maybe the news section can be refreshed more frequently. | We're doing our best, but it's not always easy. |
| more regular updates of the news section and more competitions | I think we're doing quite a lot of competitions these days, and the news: we try to do that as often as we can. |
| A more frequently update of the release-page will be welcome! For the rest ..just keep going the way you people do! Can't live without my favourite site! | There are plans for the CD Releases page to be more regularly up-dated. Thanks for your comments. |
| i like the way you sometimes disagree in your round table reviews - it makes the view on the album far more complete | The Round Table Review is designed to offer more than one opinion - sometimes we agree, sometimes not. Thanks for your comments. |
| Thanks for your great work guys! Keep it up! | We will thanks. |
| this is my first visit to dprp. I heard about the poll from verglas newsletter. so, I don't have a clear opinion about the different sections but at first glance the site seems great. | Hope to see you during 2004. |
