Pre-convention party
Thursday 1 February 2007
De Boederij, Zoetermeer
From 2 till 5 February 2007 Marillion will be holding their fourth "Convention Weekend" in holiday park Port Zelande in Ouddorp, The Netherlands.
The night before De Boerderij in Zoetermeer will join in on the madness by throwing a pre-convention party with two bands: Marillion's support regulars Gazpacho, and Dutch Marillion tribute band Lords of the Backstage.
Norway's best-kept secret will be launching their fourth album Night at the pre-convention party. The official release date is 12 February, but the album will be for sale at the gig in limited numbers.
"Night is a musical description of a dream or a stream of conciousness. It explores the question of where dreams end and reality begins and the mind as the tool that has to decide what to believe. The character goes through various memories real and imagined and sees the world from the angles of different people. He travels through time and visits places across the world including old New Orleans and Ancient woods with Pagan rituals being performed. Night is about life and the various ways of interpreting existence. Pretentious? Oh yes but delicious as well... very delicious"
Apart from new material, the band will be playing a selection of their favourite tracks from the previous three albums, Bravo (2003), When Earth Lets Go (2004) and Firebird (2005), plus a few surprises!
Lords Of The Backstage is a Dutch Marillion cover band, which focuses on what they call "The EMI years". Basically that is the music Marillion played between 1983 and 1995, so they cover both the Fish and the Hogarth era. Added to that they've been known to throw in the occassional Fish solo song in their set.
The band will be playing over an hour's worth of Marillion classics, and may have one of two special guests appearing as well!
